Outdoor Youth Club

The Alberta Hunter Education Instructor’s Association is well known for the exemplary work it has done with Conservation Education over the years. We are responsible for the implementation of all Hunter Education Programs, Fishing Education Programs, Canadian Firearms Safety Courses, the International Bowhunter Education Program, and numerous other outdoor related training courses in Alberta.

In an effort to involve our youth in these rewarding, educational programs and way of life, we have created an Outdoor Youth Club for youth ages 12-19 that enjoy the outdoors and would like to get together with others who share their passion for wildlife, wild places, and outdoor adventure.

Our goal is to develop a core group of youth who share our passion for the outdoors. With our assistance and guidance we want this group to help bring more young people into the program. Initially, we will meet once every two months for a variety of events that the club members would like to participate in, such as shooting, archery, outdoor survival, fishing, hiking, canoeing, etc. We want to encourage this group to become actively involved in numerous outdoor conservation activities now and in the future. Our long-term goal is to establish satellite groups throughout the province.
All Club members will receive a Certificate and Wallet Card identifying them as members of the Outdoor Youth Club. In the near future, members will be able to present their membership card at select businesses to obtain valuable discounts and specials.

Once some regular monthly attendance has been developed, the plan is for the group to elect an operating Board of Directors. This board would consist of a President, Vice-President, Secretary, Publicity Coordinator, Membership Coordinator, Events Coordinator, and AHEIA liaisons. With our assistance and guidance they will then be able to make their own decisions regarding club content, including the nature and frequency of activities the club will participate in.

The Club will also be able to keep everyone informed of their activities through regular submissions to AHEIA’s monthly Conservation Education magazine. Further exposure will also be gained with a presence at sports shows, gun shows, and other similar venues.

It is also our goal to develop a network of Junior Hunter Education Instructors from this valuable and dedicated group of youngsters. We feel strongly that this program will help our youth to develop into adults who have Wildlife and Fish as part of their value system, who possess strong wildlife ethics and a genuine understanding of the importance of Conservation Education in Alberta and around the world.

The development of tomorrow’s leaders and future instructors starts here!
